The Islamic Municipality of Tamparan is celebrating its annual Ramadhan Program with a little twist. The annual Ramadhan Program has become a tradition of the LGU of Tamparan when it was first initiated by the late Datu Palawan Abdul Malik D. Disomimba, Sr. 24 years ago in 1987. Used to be a night affair for the whole month of Ramadhan, it has now evolved into an afternoon program from 1PM to 3PM daily. Although the main organizer is the local government unit as headed by the Local Chief Executive, the management of the program is now turned over to the organization of Imams and Ustadz. More sectors are now involved including the business sector, the professional sector, the different line agencies of the government particularly the DOH as represented by Tamparan District Hospital and the 2 Tamparan Districts of the Department of Education, the different barangays, and the Sangguniang Bayan.

Tamparan Officials Attended Orientation on SCALOG
The Participants (7 towns) together with the Resource Speakers and the Organizers.
Officials of the Islamic Municipality of Tamparan attended an orientation on Systems Competency Assessment for Local Governments (SCALOG). The orientation was held on April 26-27, 2011 at the Grand Men Seng Hotel in Davao City. It was aimed to educate the Administrator, the Municipal Planning and Development Officer, the Sangguniang Bayan Secretary, the Human Resource Management Officer, and the Municipal Local Government Officer of the LGUs about the use of SCALOG in local administration. Conducted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the orientation was first of its kind in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
The SCALOG is a tool for internal assessment of the LGUs in order to aid decision making and strategic planning. It aims to show the strengths and weaknesses of the LGU through a well-crafted system by merely inputting information through a given scale of 1 to 5 or an answer of yes or no. The result of which is very useful in solution processing and strategy designing.
Although SCALOG is widely used in the Philippines, it has never been applied by LGUs in the ARMM area. This orientation is the first of the 2 sessions in the ARMM targeting 17 municipalities which has been pre-identified by Asia Foundation. Participants of the 1st session were 7 municipalities from the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur. Only two LGUs were selected from Lanao del Sur, namely Tamparan and Mulondo. The adoption of the SCALOG is a requirement of Asia Foundation in order to qualify for the set of trainings that the foundation offers.

The Municipal staff with the sun, sand and sea as backdrop.
The rank-and-file employees of the Islamic Municipality of Tamparan recently had a team building-cum-summer outing. Held on March 31, 2011, Thursday, at the Midway Beach Resort, Initao, Misamis Oriental, it was the first ever team building activity conducted for the employees. It was a fun-filled, sun-filled, sand-filled event wherein 31 employees splashed and frolicked under the sun.
The group enjoyed taking exciting and exhilarating turns riding a banana boat, a glass-bottom boat, and a kayak. It also included heart to heart discussions over how to keep the camaraderie intact amongst them and standing by each other when the going gets tough. It somehow provided a relaxed atmosphere as a favorable venue wherein all the formalities were discarded and everybody treated each other merrily.
At the end of the outing, it was decided that another field trip will be soon organized, and this time including the ten (10) heads of offices of the Local Government Unit. Tentative venue and schedule will be in the 2nd week of April at Timoga, Iligan City.
